What Youll Do as a School-Based SLP
As a Speech-Language Pathologist in the school system, youll assess and treat students with speech and language impairments, tailoring therapy plans to meet each childs unique communication needs. Youll develop and implement IEPs, provide both individual and group therapy, track measurable progress, and communicate regularly with teachers, school psychologists, and parents. Your role is vital to improving students' academic performance, confidence, and social integration.
Licensing & Credentialing Requirements Florida
To work as an SLP in Florida public schools, you must:

Hold a Masters degree in Speech-Language Pathology from an accredited program

Possess a valid Florida SLP license through the Florida Board of Speech-Language Pathology and Audiology

Obtain Florida Department of Education certification, which may involve completing the Speech-Language Impaired (K12) subject area exam

ASHA Certificate of Clinical Competence (CCC-SLP) is strongly preferred

Clinical Fellows may be eligible for supervision depending on district guidelines
